Meerkat Collective
Oooh Rashbre has Maiya (who travelled a circuitous route) and she looks rather hot in her skin tight secret agent outfit. Even her Nana Mouskouri glasses rock. (I just checked the spelling of Nana's last name and am astounded I spelt it right first time!)
Anyway, I thought I ought to take a pic of my chappie. He is Alexandr Orlov and he even has his own Wikipedia page. Mine is still in his box and we have had him quite some time which leads me to wonder if anyone ever takes their meerkats out of the boxes. My Alexandr has travelled from the his usual place to by the Christmas tree for this pic. His fur is a little warmer than the flash allows. I just looked up Ebay and see them selling on there from a few pounds to nearly fifty pounds.
I wonder if we renew our insurance with the same people if we will get another Meerkat toy? Hmm.

The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot: Inspired
Yesterday's date had been in our calender since it was first released as the showing of the 50th anniversary episode and in the end our day was scheduled around a feast of TV.
A special roast dinner was made to be ready by 6.30pm and the start of Strictly. Followed hot on its heels by the Dr Who 50th special episode. Just last week I saw that the return of Borgen was being advertised so I had that in mind for 9pm after Dr Who. Borgen is an incredible and amazing series I discovered from my dear friend who passed away early in the year. As we watched together the last triumphant twist and turn of that last episode of the last series she had turned to me and wryly joked that one thing was for sure and that she would not be around for the next series. I suppose it is the sort of joke I would make but is not very funny when one is not the one making the joke.
The evening began with the roast not being quite cooked enough in places. A signifier of the evening ahead I wondered.
Strictly was good enough though nothing particularly special as it is the last few weeks and the judges are suddenly much more critical. We sneaked a preview of who actually gets the boot by the end of the evening and lets say I was very surprised given the two up, or rather, down in the bottom two in the dance off. Tonight's show will be interesting.
The Dr Who special was sort of good. Expectations are so flaming high that making something that celebrated 50 years of what is very much a cult was always going to be difficult. There were some very good points. Overall I gave it a six out of ten which was exceptionally harsh of me.
So there we were, mixed review roast followed by two less than top notch programmes let me onto Borgen for which the other programming had overrun and Borgen had already started. In at the deep end with subtitles flashing away. My poor Mr Doris who had never seen any of the previous would have been isolated as to where we were and who we were dealing with. Though never mind him, I felt thrown in the deep end and I love the programme. Then I checked the programme info and I find it was actually the third episode of the new series. The third!!! What happened to the previous two? Even I need to catch those two before I can proceed.
Within minutes I flicked Borgen off and to the Dr Who after show party and the inane and repetitive "Did you enjoy that" questions which even one of the presenters commented that no-one could hardly say that they didn't. It is the sort of programming that might have been a good idea on paper and is sadly lacking. There was mention of an alternative 50th anniversary Dr Who programme which could be seen on the red button after the after show party. That mythical and rarely pressed red button except for watching alternative sports during the Olympics or taking part in the "guess the antiques price" in Antiques Roadshow.
Oh beautiful red button you saved our day! Peter Davison I never knew how much I love you! The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot is quite possibly the most brilliant and funniest and best celebration of the 50th anniversary. Typical self-deprecation and use of real family members takes Dr Who to a whole new level. What a delight it was to watch with so many references to all things Dr Who and involving a whole raft of the significant characters both behind the scenes and in front of the camera as well as a wealth of others. I do not want to say much more as it might be to spoil other's viewing pleasure. This is the gem of our Saturday night and the jewel of the 50th anniversary of Dr Who.
BBC iplayer usually only available in the UK and only for seven days
Addendum:
I have just had a delightful time re-watching the Reboot film and even freeze framed the credits and looked up who was who online! One thing led to another which led to discovering these creative and wonderful three minute vignettes created by a New York Doctor Who fan. The Adventures of the Doctor Puppet are worth watching all the way through the episodes and also the Christmas Special: How the Doctor Puppet Saved Christmas; and the music video tribute. I so look forward to the next episode. 10.46am 24 November

N n n n n nineteen
| 19 Google images of 19 |
My half sister who has always been an enigma to me was born on a different nineteenth and that has always been special to think of her.
The importance of the 19th has seemed to have grown in the last decade, like something misremembered that needs to be found. As a result of writing this post I have looked up a date I believed for at least five years to have been the 19th but find that the day is wrong for the year concerned. I'm pretty definite about the day of the week which leaves my mind having re-written history to shift what was the 18th to the subconsciously desired 19th. Perhaps I should also question what I think I am definite about!
The number nine has always attracted me in life, possibly because in numerology my life path number is 9. Perhaps that predisposes an attraction to anything with the number 9 in it. Yet I do not have a feeling for the 29th, nor other numbers ending in 9 except for the number 9 itself which was a date on which I happily married. Maybe my daughter's birth led me to find other 19s to associate with? Maybe there IS something on a 19 which I should be remembering but am not? Maybe it is a feature of age and I have already started to go a bit potty fixating on things that are just not there?
In "real life" I am utterly busy, have my finger in a lot of pies and plenty on my plate. No two days are ever the same and yet I come in to my secret blog to write such random thoughts as this.

Holidailies 2013
Would it be a bit pre-emptive of me to say I am looking forward to December and the annual holidailies? An excuse to write a little something every single day from piffle to whatever takes ones fancy? With the Christian holidays as a backdrop and for us, the possibility of snow, it provides an extra diversion. Such that it seems a whole month and more can be taken up by working towards just a one or two day event in the calender!
Nevertheless, it is fun. I do not go in for getting into unnecessary debt or buying flamboyant presents I can not afford, though if I had the money I might buy flamboyant. To me it very much is about togetherness. Sharing an event and making it very special. Being thankful for each other and thankful for another year. Catching up and being close. It is for family and close friends. For those that can make it.
I love designing the menu with all the planning and preparation and then making it work effortlessly on the day. It is a joy and a pleasure. If I am lucky with a dear friend coming then it will be twelve of us for the banquet.
Some years I am full of bah humbug about the decorations and Christmas, however since my father decided to give my sister and I hampers for Christmas which he gave us at the end of October and are sat here, I have a desire to get on with the decorations this year. It is hard to comprehend on what planet my father is but he was so obviously so excited with his collections of items for the hampers he wanted us to have them early so we can check them and not get any duplicate items. Very thoughtful.
It is four weeks to the day until 1st December 2013. I do not spend much time shopping apart from our local smallish supermarkets so all in all I guess I am not overwhelmed by Christmas everywhere. I'm pretty sure it is out there but I am not jaded by it.
Alongside getting my bedroom and clothes into tip top order I have a private photoshoot to arrange. Something akin to "How to look good naked" and something I have wanted to do for myself in my fiftieth year. I have found a photographer and just need to pull out some images of picture styles I quite like so that we are all on the same wavelength. After all, those naked shoots do not show anything though one is technically naked. It would be good to reveal a pic for my Darling Mr Doris, and me, for Christmas.

Snow globe
Way back a few years on a late November day I penned a tiny ditty about driving in the snow. Here we are in late March and the snow flakes are coming down as big as any I have seen leaving blankets on all the cars. Not enough yet to build up on the ground as it has been previously damp though I am sure it is doing a good job on settling on the hedgerows and nooks and crannies on the sides.
In just over half an hour I am due to load the car and drive to work. Then I will be in my own personalised inverted snow globe. All toasty and warm with magical whiteness falling out of the sky.
I remember once in the seventies, living in London, we had snow in June.

Lovely Day
So far: waking up cuddled with the Mr; doing my nails in a vibrant purple gloss; a friend stopping over and going out with her to the local food emporium and escaping out the fast moving basket aisle; then walking through the fresh air to the allotment to check on our land acquisition; walking back via the rather good coffee shop at the garden centre full of silver and white ornaments with the wood fire burning and jazzy Christmas carols playing; then home to prepare the lamb koftas for later and now sat around chilling out. The later afternoon and evening pans out ahead mellow and content.
Pity the washing machine has just started leaking. This will be the third washing machine that I know of that has gone kaput in the last week.

Annual Round Robin
It was with real delight and zeal in opening the Christmas card I realised it contained the annual round robin. It is from my cousin and his wife, which makes it actually written by his wife. That is how these things usually work, but not always as my Mr Doris has on occasion written them. We have written such things in the past but I'd like to think we wrote them with a different style and acknowledging that it was impersonal and then tried to make it as personable and friendly as possibly. We did them using web pages, thus saving on paper, and included photographs. It was never a catalogue of achievements nor just a diatribe of saccharine.
The latest offering from my cousins did not disappoint and launched right in as to where each of the family including the adult members are up to in their highly successful studies. We get the grades and the successes. The kids are young women and I wonder what they think of their parent's cloying newsletters boasting and bragging. Each sentence fits the cliche of the Round Robin Christmas Letter and I wonder if these people do not even glance at the media and the backlash. Today's BBC Magazine has an amusing item to join all the others online. The latest one page A4 printout using a Word layout on 80gsm photocopy paper even contains grainy photographs of them at their best Olympic seats this year.
It is not that I do not want people to share their achievements and to feel good about them, just that if one has a page of monologued super achievements topped off with them looking forward to another action packed year then I am left chuckling and cheered up by the humour of it all. It is surely meant to be humorous, isn't it?
We used to regularly receive another Round Robin from some friends that went over several pages and was a catalogue of exciting places they holidayed to in just that year. I read these travelogues with huge jealousy as we were facing financial crisis year after year. Then one year it stopped and soon after we heard they had separated and divorced. All that glitters is not gold so why pretend it is.

The miracle that is Christmas
Not in the Christian sense but with regard to not stressing and panicking about getting everything done. On Monday I was asked by a colleague if I had done all my Christmas shopping and I had replied that I hadn't and I didn't care, it would happen when it did and sure enough it has. In one day it was all shopped and wrapped and the three Christmas cards I just had to do were written and posted. Done with costs kept to a very reasonable amount. The presents were chosen with love and I think are lovely.
Today I survived yet another end of the world, unless this is all an illusion. It has been very busy at work, however I know this was not an illusion. I've come home to do my niece's and my daughter's nails and I am knackered. My own look appalling and need doing before tomorrow as I have a day of work from early but that is my last until the end of next week.
Today was my fifth day of doing the Fast-5 or Warrior diet and I am loving it.
Roll on Christmas and friends.

Progress Report
- Paper chains → made. Said paper chains now on floor in neat piles awaiting blue tack finding operation to fix on walls.
- Christmas tree → up, dressed and lit up. Not a single present underneath on account of not having Christmas shopped yet. Fingers crossed for some sort of Christmas miracle this week. This morning at a local potential gift emporium nothing would do anyway but they seem to have put their prices up. Not good at all.
- Fish tank → more than half the water replaced and is now clear again after too much blue water treatment. I swear I can now see the fish waving yoo-hoo at me!
- Kitchen sorting → begun. A bit of space made and a bit more to be found. Major cleaning yet to be done if we are to have guests in the house within a matter of days. Oo-er.
- Home made shortbread → made and hmm. Tasty enough but as experimental presents will not do when made in a rubbishy oven that I have not tamed. Idea tried and dismissed.
- Friend staying → sorted. So pleased as I think it is nearly a year since we have met up!
- Yet to do → complete sale of house, keep working, keep head above water, keep smiling :-)

Below is my own attempt at ASCII art. Or rather, I used a generator and then, with a bit of effort, modified it to my own taste. What is there to say about today's date of 12th of the 12th of 12 that hasn't already been said elsewhere? The only thing I think we can say is that is a very interesting pattern and worthy of note. Oh yes, and thanks to the scheduler, this post has been posted at 12.12am too.

Awake
Something has switched in me and I am willingly up early. Wanting to crack on and get sorting of piles of stuff in between a busy work schedule this week. Will be good to see how much better the intentions pan out in reality. I am intent on being optimistic!

Manual Patience
Today was great: after doing some work this morning I went out on an errand which brought me back through our little town in the late afternoon. I purposefully took the route which took me over the stone bridge, past the mock Tudor new builds and then the assortment of real Tudor buildings and the tall Gothic Victorian terrace. Past the parish church which has stood for 150 years amidst its gravestones that are kept well. The houses and church give way to shops and there is a magical assortment of unusual and independent shops in Victorian and Georgian buildings with small windows that one could imagine laden with frost and snow at Christmas time in years gone by with children pressing their noses to cold glass to see the wares on offer. Within a few shops the road turns to cobbles and past the beautiful cobbled town square with pubs all round. The Christmas lights have been strung up in anticipation of the grand switch-on this weekend once the tree has been installed. Carols round the tree seem a little pre-emptive in November but I'm looking forward to it. Wrapped up in scarf and gloves stood in the chill and sharing the celebration. The excited child in me is emerging.
Talking of children, son told us this evening that he has been given a sixth form place in his excellent school for next September. Only subject to a good next report!
Windows computers has a game called Solitaire which in the past I have disabled because it is rather addictive. Just lately, as a break from other things, I have taken to playing Solitaire, or Patience, with a real set of cards. It is the oddest thing to lay down the cards and not have sound effects or, when you win, for the cards to not cascade down and, for the score to not show up. As for using ones arms and hands to manually lay the cards down, it is such a novel idea. Addendum: Below is a cartoon that the lovely Anji found and mentioned in her comment - I love it!

Pet shop on the corner
There is a pet shop on the corner of our road, in our small English town with a population of just over 16,000. It is a rural area with plenty of farms and real proper cows and sheep. What I don't understand is that I never see the pet shop busy with customers nor anyone leaving with large packages. Yet, almost daily there are deliveries to this pet shop. Big vans, even bigger trucks and all size of vehicles. Definitely deliveries and not collections. Which I find rather curious to imagine just what is going on in the pet shop in the corner? Is it a front for some illegal activity, a black market or something else. All in our little pet shop on the corner of our road.

Sweetheart wants a Rolex?
No Cyrus, sweetheart doesn't want a Rolex. Catalpa T. Misguidedly is offering me 'impevord Extra time pills pills' whatever they are meant to be. Tasia Angle writes, 'Diccky Too Small Is Not Ur Fault, While U Can Increase! reticent' and promises to 'Increase the length of your DICCKY by 2-5 full inches' and 'Thicken ur DICCKY and make it much fuller & harder'.
Kaye Bermudez has sent her email early. It should have been sent on 24 October 2035 and assures me can be 'shipped directly to your door' but by then directly to my coffin might be more useful.
I can get via-gra or VI.A.G.R.A or V1@GRA or maybe some V-i-@-g-r-a r. But then maybe I might prefer some V_1_@_G_R_A ---> or Viagra or VlAGGRÁ together with CIALLìS and VÁLLIUM. Is someone telling me something and I am in need of all these 'Giiga Medz' which are all free or at knock-down prices. Perceval Villegas wants me to save 70%, whilst Badness T. Goddard calls me handsome and offers my meds to be 'delivreed anonymously'.
The latest business thing seems to be 'Penny Stox', 'Bottom Line Stox', 'HotShot Stox' or 'MicroCap Stox'. Offered by the likes of Miguel, Brennan, Marquis, Tybalt or Amir. Theodora tells me 'Don't be a fuddy-duddy...use the software everyone's using... ' and Carlo Chelinni tells me to 'Work for UK sitizen'. Woodpile L. Airstrip urges 'For presfosional documetns use preosfsional sfotware'. Quite!
If I'm stuck I could always 'Shhedd Incheezz'. Vexation H. Verbena, Shoplifts Q. Mitigate, Joyriders R. Bogart, and Tessie H. Mopeds couldn't be invented but someone or something has done just that.
I haven't mentioned the lotteries I have won; the many worldwide banks for which I have an account and they need to check my details, Paypal or Ebay too; not to mention the many deceased African dictators whose families are relying on me.
In just over a month I have received over 1,000 items of spam to just a couple of my email accounts. Does anyone really respond to this stuff? Does anyone buy?

Use of the term "spam" was adopted as a result of the Monty Python skit in which our SPAM meat product was featured. In this skit, a group of Vikings sang a chorus of "spam, spam, spam . . . " in an increasing crescendo, drowning out other conversation.

- I read an article that stated that 1 out of 10 respond to spam ads, thus they are still flooding our mailboxes.
Actually, I haven't gotten much spam since moving away from one of the more common internet purveyors and to its sister company.
My email account at work almost never gets any spam. And my yahoo account does a good job filtering. My domain name & email provider also does a good job.
I do have a spam-trap account on yahoo that I use for posting messages to strange groups, etc. It always gets slammed.
Spam will always be here as long as fools keep responding to the Viagra ads.
Deliberate Chaos

- The amount of emails I get asking me do I want to 'increase the size of my manhood' and 'satisfi (with spelling mistakes) your wife' is unbelievable.
I have one account where only spam arrives, I hate to lose it cos its my preferred email address which I havent been able to get anywhere else. But I am going to have to just stop using it as the spam is completely out of control.

- It's those 2 people who keep responding to these spam ads that make our lives miserable!
At work I have a total of 3 spam filers running (one online, one on my PC and Outlook Junk rules). That pretty much filters out everything.
My personal e-mail accounts are all free services (gmail and the like) and they do pretty good, too.
So as you can imagine, my dick is limp, I'm starting to gain some serious weight, my portfolio is shrinking and I'm paying outrageous prices for my prescription meds.
The good news? I'm virtually spam free!

- That was so funny!! You really took a lot of time to get those drug spellings didn’t you? Great post.
I’ve never met or heard of anyone who actually responds to spam but there are still enough people out there who do respond to it so the spammers stay in business.
One thing I have heard that is suppose to really drive span forward is:
Forwarded group emails. I don’t know just how it’s supposed to drive the spam industry, but it does. So just to be on the safe side, I no longer respond to those “Send this to 10 of your friends right now or bad luck will befall you” types of email. DELETE.

- You know, I used to find Spam annoying, now I'm pretty amused by it all. I ask the same question you've done: Does anyone really respond?
I really love it, though, when I get offers for penis enlargement and breast enlargement in the same day...clearly someone is confused.

- I've often wondered the same. Surely, spam, must be the absolute last refuge of the desperate?

- Legitimate businesses should take you off their lists, if you click on the 'unsubscribe' button at the bottom then they're legally obliged to do so as far as I know.. jsut don't do that with the dodgier looking ones, as it just verifies you're there to respond, and you'll get more.
At least emails don't waste paper. I hate real (as opposed to virtual) junk mail more for that reason...

- It is pretty important to make a distinction
between spammers (who are deprecable) and scammers (who are very deprecable).
"419 nigerian people", for example, are scammers, thieves and in some rare cases also murderers.
HArd to believe, but there are naive people
believing that someone is giving them
20 millions of dollars. These people get
completely screwed by those scammers.
Just search for <419> in google to check the severity of the situation.
I have answered to one of those mail to understand what was hidden (of course I was pretending to believe everything).
I found no scruples person asking me large amounts of money (and it goes unsaid they received nothing from me) 419>

What was the disco like? Or did they have a band?
Have a lovely week.
Catherine
I have a wonderful verification code - 'bzumumac'. Sounds like something that big women should wear when it's raining.
I cannot remember where I read that phrase oh those many years ago, but it seems to fit that picture.
My birthday is the same date of the month as Prince Phillip's. I sent him a birthday card awhile back, but never have received an acknowledgement.
So as far as I am concerned, God Save the Queen! :D
Better that he didn't. I heard that he's not very tactful sometimes.
*goes to change in to something more comfortable*
Oh I don't know. I've seen plenty of women walking around who looked fantastic and clearly had more money than I. Presumably though, they were using someone else's money.
It's great having a wife who loves you even when you're broke and cheap. ;p
I'm glad you attended, anyway. They needed SOMEBODY to brighten up the occasion, and you really did, didn't you!
